York City 1 - 2 Oxford United: Oxford raise the Roofe at York

Kemar Roofe's sixth goal of the season ended Oxford's three-match winless run as the U's triumphed 2-1 at York.

The former West Brom striker pounced in the 71st minute for the promotion hopefuls after the Minstermen's Rhys Turner had earlier cancelled out Danny Hylton's opener,

Oxford took a deserved 10th-minute lead after controlling the opening exchanges with Hylton rounding keeper Scott Flinders expertly and finding the net after York's 17-year-old midfielder Ben Godfrey had given the ball away in his own half.

But the Minstermen were back on level terms after a terrible 38th-minute mix-up between U's centre-back Johnny Mullins and Sam Slocombe.

The pair's failure to deal with a hopeful forward ball into their penalty box gifted Turner an open goal, which he duly found from eight yards out.

James Berrett's powerful volley called Slocombe into early action after the restart but the visitors forged back in front on 71 minutes.

A shot by Mullins, following Sercombe's corner, was cleared off the line by Godfrey but the ball ricocheted back over the line off Roofe.
