Crewe Alexandra vs Southend United preview - Crewe captain Harry Davis to miss Southend match because of knee injury

Crewe captain Harry Davis will miss the visit of Southend as he is set to be sidelined for a few weeks after injuring his knee.

The joint on the defender's right leg is swollen and sore and will keep him out while the club assess the damage.

Manager Steve Davis is looking to bring in a goalkeeper on an emergency loan to cover for Dave Richard (foot) and chose to go without a back-up on Saturday despite youth goalkeeper Kieron Harrison being registered and travelling with the squad.

Midfielder Billy Bingham could be eased back in after returning to training from a hamstring injury last week.

Southend manager Phil Brown could be without four players as the Shrimpers look for a third consecutive league win.

Adam Barrett is out with a hamstring injury and midfielder Michael Timlin is unlikely to feature as he nurses a thigh strain.

Defender John White returned to training on Monday but remains a doubt while Stephen McLaughlin misses out through an unspecified injury.

Noel Hunt, however, has been regaining match fitness and is pushing for a start after coming off the bench in the 2-1 win over Scunthorpe on Saturday.
