Liverpool interested in Denis Cheryshev

Liverpool are one of four clubs interested in signing Real Madrid’s Russian playmaker Denis Cheryshev in the January transfer window, as reported by AS (via Tutto Mercato Web).

Cheryshev was sent out on loan last season to Villarreal, enjoying a decent spell with the Yellow Submarine, but so far this term under new boss Rafa Benitez he’s barely featured at all for Los Blancos, playing just 14 minutes of their 1-0 win over Granada at the Bernabeu in La Liga.

Now according to AS, via Tutto Mercato Web, Liverpool are looking to recruit the 24-year-old in the New Year, but they could have some competition for his signature.

The likes of Sevilla, who also signed Cheryshev on loan two seasons ago, Valencia and Zenit St. Petersburg are also interested in the Russian international, as per the report.

AS also claim that the playmaker is preparing to leave the Madrid giants too.

Real have made a very good start to the season under Benitez, bouncing back from their opening day goalless draw against Sporting Gijon by winning four La Liga games on the bounce, scoring 14 goals. However, Los Blancos suffered a surprise 0-0 draw at home to Malaga today.

As for Liverpool, they halted an alarming slump this afternoon by beating Aston Villa 3-2 at Anfield, securing their first win for over a month and slightly relieving the pressure mounting on Brendan Rodgers’ shoulders.

Next up for the Reds is a home clash against FC Sion in the Europa League on Thursday night, followed by the Merseyside derby at Goodison Park on Sunday afternoon.
