Oxford United 0 - 0 Morecambe: Kemar Roofe misses penalty as Oxford are held by Morecambe

Kemar Roofe became the third Oxford player to miss a penalty this season as Michael Appleton's team were held 0-0 by Morecambe at the Kassam Stadium.

The U's controlled the match, and played some good football. But Roofe's 66th-minute spot kick, after he was fouled on a run into the box by Shaun Beeley, was a poor effort, hit too softly, enabling Barry Roche to make a comfortable low save to his left.

Beeley was only booked for his foul, to the surprise of many, because he looked to have been the last man.

Alex MacDonald and Danny Hylton had previously missed penalties for Oxford this season.

Morecambe were twice fortunate not to net own goals. Kevin Ellison deflected a misdirected clearance by Ryan Edwards past a post, and in the second half Adam Dugdale sliced a right-wing cross narrowly over his own crossbar.

Ellison went very close for Morecambe in the 28th minute with a glancing header from Laurence Wilson's cross that smashed against the bar.

Roche saved well-hit shots by Roofe and Danny Hylton, so although Oxford maintained their unbeaten home record this campaign, they were left frustrated not to have won, for the second week running.
