Sheffield United trio Che Adams, Ryan Flynn and Terry Kennedy could all return to contention for the home derby against Doncaster.
Forward Adams has overcome the effects of a virus, while midfielder Flynn (groin) and defender Kennedy (knee) are also hoping to return to action.
Midfielder Paul Coutts could make his first appearance of the season after returning to action with the Under-21s this week, but midfielder/defender Callum McFadzean (ankle) is out.
Striker Billy Sharp is expected to retain his place in the starting line-up against his former club.
Doncaster's new loan signing Keshi Anderson is expected to be included in the squad and could make his Football League debut.
Anderson, 20, has joined Rovers on an initial month-long deal from Crystal Palace.
Another striker, Nathan Tyson, is expected back in contention after a hamstring problem but fellow forward Andy Williams is unlikely to feature due to a broken nose sustained in last week's home draw against Oldham.
Centre-half Luke McCullough and midfielder Harry Forrester (both knee) are edging closer to full fitness but remain sidelined, while caretaker boss Rob Jones will not include himself in the squad.
