Glimmers of hope are slowly returning to Chelsea after they secured a crucial 2-0 victory over London rivals Arsenal.
Whilst they still remain well behind league leaders Manchester City, supporters will be hoping that the win on the weekend was enough for Jose Mourinho’s side to kick-start their Premier League title defence.
They face Walsall in the Capital One Cup next before travelling up to Newcastle in their following Premier League match with Mourinho desperate for his side to keep their winning form going.
Here is the best news and gossip surrounding the club today.
Chelsea winger Christian Atsu has stated that he is eager to force his way into the Bournemouth starting team and impress his parent club. He said: “It’s my dream to play for Chelsea. But right now I have to focus on Bournemouth.” (BBC)
Kurt Zouma has defended his fellow defender and captain John Terry stating that the former England international still has a role to play at the club. The Frenchman said: “John is a legend and is an example to me. He is a really good teacher for me. He is still there, he is a leader.” (Evening Standard)
Chelsea are plotting a January sweep for Marseille defender Nicolas N’Koulou. The Blues will make a bid for the Cameroonian international come the reopening of the transfer window and are hoping to secure him on the cheap as his current contract is set to expire next summer. (talkSPORT)
Sir Alex Ferguson has called Chelsea’s £50 million deal for Fernando Torres as one of the “biggest blunders” in Premier League history. The Spanish striker scored just 20 goals in 110 league games for the club before the Blues sold him to AC Milan last year. (Evening Standard).
Chelsea are reportedly set for a raid of Real Madrid’s full-back Dani Carvajal. Jose Mourinho is reportedly looking for defensive reinforcements to bolster his options with his side conceding 12 goals in their first five Premier League games. (TuttoMercatoWeb, via the Daily Express)
