Navas breaks Madrid record

Real Madrid goalkeeper Keylor Navas has broken the club's record for most consecutive clean sheets at the start of a season.

Navas has not conceded a goal in five matches in all competitions, with his latest clean sheet coming against Granada on Saturday, a feat which saw him surpass Miguel Angel's record of four successive clean sheets at the beginning of the 1975/76 campaign.
The Costa Rica international's run is made even more impressive by the fact that he was set to leave the club on transfer deadline day as part of the deal that would have seen David De Gea join Los Blancos from Manchester United, with Navas heading in the opposite direction.
However, the necessary paperwork was not submitted in time, and the proposed transfer collapsed, leaving Navas to refocus performing for Madrid.
"It was a difficult night for me at the end of the transfer market but that is now in the past," Navas told reporters. "Now I am thinking of the present and the coach [Rafa Benitez] believes in me. I have had the chance to stay and I will give my best. I am very grateful to the Real fans for their support which is not easy to earn."
According to Marca, Navas is 10 minutes away from surpassing Madrid legend Iker Casillas' personal best of 460 minutes without conceding a goal, which he achieved during the 2008/09 season.
