The Portuguese great is understood to be ready to leave Real Madrid at the end of the season with United and PSG set to battle it out for his services.
Reports said recently that PSG were readying a £110m summer bid for Ronaldo but they have since dismissed such speculation.
Ronaldo left Old Trafford in 2009 for a then world record £80m.
The Mirror report that Real want £90m for their man, insisting his global appeal and proven scoring ability would justify a new record fee despite his age.
Ronaldo will turn 31 in February and sources close to the player's camp believe he will move on from the Bernabeu for a fee closer to the £70m mark.
Whatever the price, United and PSG are known to want the double Ballon d’Or winner and are set for mega-money transfer scrap in the summer.
United have twice tried to bring Ronaldo back to the club since his departure. but are hopeful a third move for him this summer would do the trick.
It is understood Louis van Gaal and co would match his £15m-a-year wage demands.
But United may fail to bring their former star back, with Ronaldo said to be keen on a fresh challenge in a new league, opening the door for French champions PSG.
