Plymouth Argyle vs Bristol Rovers preview - Josh Simpson being monitored by Plymouth for Bristol Rovers clash

Plymouth are monitoring the progress of Josh Simpson ahead of their Sky Bet League Two clash with Bristol Rovers.

Midfielder Simpson (groin) has not featured since August 22 and the 28-year-old returned to full training with the Argyle squad on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Pilgrims boss Derek Adams has stated Bolton loanee Oscar Threlkeld will not be fit for the Home Park fixture after taking a "slight knock" to his thigh.

Adams was delighted to see last season's top scorer Reuben Reid make his comeback from a hamstring injury at Wycombe last weekend, confirming the striker, who scored in that game, came through the 90 minutes unscathed.

Billy Bodin is pressing for a place in the Rovers attack for the first time this season as the Pirates seek to arrest a slide of three successive league defeats.

The Wales Under-21 international has come off the bench in the last two games and Rovers boss Darrell Clarke may seek striking alternatives after seeing his side fail to score since August 22.

Cristiano Montano is another attacking option to add pace down the flanks while Gibraltar international Jake Gosling could make his first league start of the season in midfield.

But defender Daniel Leadbitter (hamstring) is still thought to be a week away from full fitness with his return pencilled in for the visit of Portsmouth on September 26.
