Arsenal star could break Premier League record against Chelsea

Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech could break a long-standing Premier League record against his former club Chelsea on Saturday.

The Gunners, fresh off the back of their 2-0 victory over Stoke City this weekend, travel to Stamford Bridge next week to face a beleaguered Blues side. Jose Mourinho’s team are floundering in the EPL this term, having accumulated only four points from their first five matches of the season.

The Pensioners fell to another defeat on Saturday, losing 3-1 at Goodison Park to a Steven Naismith-inspired Everton.

Next weekend, they have the opportunity to begin to get their title challenge back on track, and to make a statement of intent against one of the division’s other heavyweights.

For Cech, the game will have a great deal of personal significance.

Not only will the keeper make his return to Stamford Bridge for the first time since leaving Chelsea in the summer, when he ended his 11-year stay with the west London side, he could also be set to break an EPL record.

The stopper’s clean sheet against Stoke was his 169th in the top flight, and drew him level with David James, who previously held the record for the most EPL shutouts.

Should Cech keep a clean sheet against his former club, according to the Mirror, he will surpass James outright and become the new record holder.

Will the Czech Republic legend be able to keep Chelsea at bay this weekend, or are Mourinho’s troubled outfit set to finally come good and get their season underway?
