DAVID BECKHAM wants Wayne Rooney to join his MLS Miami football franchise.

Becks, 40, believes Manchester United and England skipper Roo will be perfect to spearhead his long cherished plan to launch an USA soccer team in 2018.

He has found a suitable site or a stadium near the Marlins baseball ground.

Beckham has been inundated with calls from players and contacts within football who want to be part of the new team he plans to build with a start date pencilled in for the 2018 season.

Rooney, 29, would be coming to the end of his United contract and is interested in moving to the States with his family.

He’s enjoyed holidays there and has heard glowing reports from friends about the improving football.

MLS commissioner Don Garber refused to confirm interest in Rooney this week as he did not wish to offend his friends - the Glazer family - who own Manchester United and have Rooney under contract.

However, it is understood the MLS would be keen on Rooney’s arrival.

Garber said: "He’s under contract at Man Utd. I’m personally very friendly with the Glazers.

"To even be talking about it while he’s under contract I guess isn’t the way we operate. We don’t do that. We wouldn’t do it."
