Ayr extended their unbeaten run to five league matches with a 2-0 victory over Dunfermline.
The visitors went ahead in the 23rd minute when Alan Forrest fired into the bottom corner.
And Jordan Preston doubled their advantage in the 59th minute, pouncing on some poor defending to find the bottom corner.
Mickael Antoine-Curier almost halved the deficit for Dunfermline, who started the day top, but the substitute failed to keep his header down as they dropped to third after Forfar's win at Brechin.
