Stevenage Borough 2 - 2 York City : Scott Flinders saves penalty to secure point for York

Posted Sunday, September 13, 2015 by PA

Scott Flinders' late penalty save and Luke Summerfield's stunning second-half strike helped earn York a thrilling 2-2 draw away at Stevenage.

York took the lead in the 39th minute when Eddie Nolan swept home his first goal for the club with a cracking right-footed shot on the edge of the box.

But Stevenage came out after half-time with a new lease of life and Chris Whelpdale equalised in the 52nd minute when he headed home Connor Ogilvie's cross.

Three minutes later the hosts took the lead as Charlie Lee nodded home his first of the campaign from Dean Wells' centre.

But the sides were level once more as Summerfield struck home a sublime curling effort with 16 minutes remaining.

However, there was still time for more drama. Stevenage were given a penalty after Dipo Akinyemi was brought down by Dave Winfield in the box, but Flinders produced a superb left-handed save from Brett Williams' spot-kick.

And, in the 90th minute, Tom Conlon rattled the crossbar with a close-range header for Stevenage but the point still extended the hosts' unbeaten run in Sky Bet League Two to four games.
