Manchester United have confirmed that David De Gea has signed a new four-year contract at Old Trafford with an option for a further year.
The 24-year-old looked set to leave the Theatre of Dreams having agreed terms with Real Madrid during the summer. However La Liga didn’t receive the require paperwork in time, meaning the transfer fell through on deadline day.
In a sudden turn of events, De Gea has decided to sign a brand new contract with the Red Devils and has agreed a new four-year deal with an option for a fifth.
The Spain international will, no doubt, be on hugely improved wages as well after more than proving his worth to Louis van Gaal in the Premier League last season.
The Mirror, in fact, reported earlier today that De Gea would put pen to paper on a new deal worth £200,000 a week.
He was absolutely phenomenal last season for the Red Devils as the Spanish goalkeeper - set to become the number one at international level soon enough – and was voted into the PFA Team of the Season due to his performances.
He made some outstanding saves for the Red Devils throughout the campaign and was the major reason as to why United ended up finishing in the top four, which gave them the opportunity to make it through to the group stages of the Champions League, which they have done.
