The Manchester United striker racked up his 50th goal for his country by firing home a late penalty, after Harry Kane had broken the deadlock with a smart finish
Wayne Rooney became England's all-time record goalscorer by netting a late penalty in a 2-0 win overSwitzerland on Tuesday.
The Three Lions had struggled during a dismal opening 45 minutes at Wembley but Harry Kane broke the deadlock with a fine left-footed finish midway through the second half.
However, the night ultimately belonged to Rooney, who converted a penalty won by Raheem Sterling to break Bobby Charlton's goalscoring record with his 50th strike for his country.
Victory, of course, mattered little to England, who had already sealed their place at Euro 2016, but their 2-0 triumph did see them maintain the one remaining 100 per cent record in qualifying.
