Borussia Monchengladbach are about to make a beautiful gesture to those in need by donating €1 from every ticket sold for their first Champions League game of the season.
Gladbach are scheduled to take on Manchester City on September 30th and have followed the initiative of clubs like FC Porto in making a donation to Syrian refugees.
The plight of the refugees has been all over the news throughout the summer and it’s a problem that the world’s biggest clubs are no longer ignoring.
Gladbach released a statement earlier today crediting Porto for ‘playing for the migrants’ with chairman Stephan Schippers saying: “We will gladly follow this commendable initiative from Porto.
''As a part of the Champions League, the most important club competition in Europe, we should take on a leading role in the European community and show solidarity with the refugees.”
With Borussia-Park already sold out for City’s visit, it’s expected that Bundesliga giants Gladbach will donate €46,000 to the refugees.
We hope to see more clubs follow their lead, particularly in England, where most of football’s richest clubs ply their trade.
