Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick is rated doubtful for Saturday's clash with Liverpool after pulling out of the England squad due to injury.
The unspecified injury has ruled the 34-year-old out of contention for England's clash with Switzerland at Wembley on Tuesday, and he has subsequently returned to old Trafford to be assessed by the Red Devils' medical team.
As such, Carrick is rated doubtful for the crunch clash with the Merseysiders, with both teams aiming to return to the winning trail.
A statement on Manchester United's official website read: "The unspecified injury to Carrick must be assessed but it could provide a headache ahead of the Barclays Premier League clash with Liverpool at Old Trafford, when Louis van Gaal's men will endeavour to bounce back from the disappointing 2-1 defeat at Swansea City that preceded the current international break."
Carrick has made six appearances in all competitions under manager Louis van Gaal this term, bagging one assist in the process.
