Chelsea sign Michael Hector for £4m

Premier League champions Chelsea have reportedly completed the signing of Reading defender Michael Hector in a £4 million deal according to the Daily Mail.
This transfer has come out of nowhere and unlike Papy Djilobodji there hasn’t been much mention of it in the press.
However, the Mail are saying that it is a done deal which is going to surprise a lot of people and will surely disappoint a lot of Chelsea fans.
This isn’t necessarily anything against Hector but earlier in the window Chelsea were being linked with the likes of John Stones and now they’ve gone to Djilobodji and Hector.
It’s not as if Hector particularly lit up the Championship last season and he’s not spoken about as an exceptionally talented player.
He is 23 years of age so he could well have some resale value in the future but it’s hard to see how he’s going to be able to succeed at Chelsea.
Ironically he has been out on 11 loans during his short career and that could suit him well given that Chelsea like to send their players out on loan.
It will be interesting to see if the Blues confirm the transfer today or whether it proves to be a spurious report.
