Southend moved themselves out of League One's bottom four by earning a 2-2 draw at Coventry.
Both sides could have opened the scoring in the first quarter of an hour - a very open 15 minutes that set the tone for the rest of the game.
The deadlock was eventually broken in the 34th minute when Coventry made the most of a contentious corner. Adam Armstrong saw his header cleared off the line before Reda Johnson smashed home.
The lead was short-lived as Southend's Noel Hunt headed in from close range from Ben Coker's right-wing cross in the 36th minute.
And the visitors turned the score on its head in the 41st minute as Aaron Phillips sent Michael Timlin tumbling in the box. David Mooney fired in from the spot although keeper Lee Burge did get a hand to it.
Southend keeper Dan Bentley went one better at the start of the second half, saving Jim O'Brien's low penalty after Sam Ricketts was fouled.
But Ricketts gave Bentley no chance in the 72nd minute as he glanced in Jacob Murphy's corned at the near post.
