Morecambe boss Jim Bentley celebrated his contract extension with a crushing 4-1 win over Notts County.

Three second-half goals secured the Shrimps a second win of the season.

They took the lead in the 20th minute as Alan Goodall scored for the second successive week.

The midfielder collected the ball 25 yards out and let fly with a stunning left-foot drive that gave goalkeeper Roy Carroll no chance as it whistled into the left-hand corner of the net.

County went close to an equaliser eight minutes later when Jon Stead hit the crossbar with a left-foot curler after a smart one-two with Izale McLeod.

The Magpies did level after 41 minutes with another excellent goal. The ball bounced around on the edge of the area and Genaro Snijders volleyed sweetly past Barry Roche from the edge of the box.

The second half saw County start well but it was Morecambe who struck first with substitute Paul Mullin curling an effort past Carroll from the edge of the area to give the home side the advantage.

As the Magpies piled bodies forward in search of an equaliser they were undone twice in the final two minutes of the game.

Alex Kenyon made it 3-1 with a shot from eight yards that squeezed through the legs of Carroll at the near post and they added a fourth when Mullin played in Jamie Devitt and he finished calmly past Carroll from 12 yards.
