Saido Berahino bid from Spurs rejected by West Brom
A second bid from Spurs for Saido Berahino has been rejected

West Brom have rejected a new bid from Tottenham for striker Saido Berahino.

Spurs had an £18m bid for Berahino rejected earlier this month and after being dropped from West Brom's matchday squad for the 3-2 defeat against Chelsea, the striker submitted a written transfer request to the club.

Spurs have since returned with a new offer, believed by Sky sources to be an initial £18m rising to a potential £21m based on clauses and targets.

The feeling at The Hawthorns is that it is now too late to replace the England U21 international, who the club are understood to value at closer to £30m.

West Brom released a brief statement on their website reiterating their stance that the player is not available for transfer.

"West Bromwich Albion can today confirm the club have rejected a second offer from Tottenham Hotspur for Saido Berahino," the statement read.

"Our position remains unchanged. The sale of this player is not on our agenda," West Brom chairman Jeremy Peace added.

After the initial bid from Spurs last week, Peace said he had told Tottenham counterpart he was not prepared to part with the club's prized asset.

He said: "We have no interest in selling Saido which is what I have told [Spurs chairman] Daniel Levy.

"I know we are living in an age where no club can say 'never' about the possibility of selling a player. However, the prospect of selling Saido is simply not on our agenda.

"We are going forward with Saido very much in our plans and still striving to add players to improve the balance of our squad."

Berahino, who is contracted to West Brom until the summer of 2017, has scored 19 goals in 72 Premier League appearances for the club.
