Palermo 1 - 0 Genoa : Palermo squeeze past Genoa

Posted Monday, August 24, 2015 by PA

Palermo claimed a narrow 1-0 victory in their opening Serie A match at home to Genoa thanks to a stoppage-time goal from debutant Abdel El Kaoutari.

With seconds remaining, the Moroccan defender got behind a loose ball following a free-kick in Genoa's six-yard box and struck it past opposing goalkeeper Eugenio Lamanna.

The hosts had been unlucky not to break the deadlock earlier in the game at Stadio Renzo Barbera with Luca Rigoni and Franco Vazquez each hitting the crossbar either side of half-time.

Genoa dominated in possession and forced Palermo keeper Stefano Sorrentino to make two early saves from Goran Pandev's attempts.

However, they grew in confidence as the game progressed and found the winner.
