Fleetwood Town vs Colchester United preview - Cod Army short in defence

Posted Friday, August 21, 2015 by PA

Defensive duo Nathan Pond and Eggert Jonsson are again doubtful for Fleetwood's clash with Colchester at Highbury.

Cod Army captain Pond has an ankle injury while Jonsson picked up a problem in training on Monday, with both of them ruled out of the 4-3 victory over Bury at Gigg Lane on Tuesday as a result.

That meant Conor McLaughlin had to revert inside to partner Stephen Jordan at centre-back while Tyler Forbes slotted in at right-back and boss Graham Alexander may keep with that scenario against the U's.

Alexander has more options in attack, though, now Jamille Matt and David Ball are both fully fit to provide competition for Declan McManus and Jamie Proctor.

Colchester manager Tony Humes will decide whether to involve George Moncur after the former West Ham midfielder was not included in the squad Tuesday night's goalless draw against Oldham, amid reports of possible transfer interest in the 22-year-old.

Defender George Elokobi, who rejoined the U's in the summer, but is yet to play, could be in contention after being an unused substitute, while midfielder Sammie Szmodics impressed on his return to the side.

Teenager Kane Vincent-Young may stand in at left-back for Matt Briggs, who has been injured. Goalkeeper Sam Walker is a long-term absentee with knee problem.

Captain Chris Porter is still battling an ankle injury, so teenage forward Macauley Bonne could again lead the attack as Colchester look for a first league win.
