Manchester City have confirmed that they have completed the transfer of highly-rated Valencia defender Nicolas Otamendi, as the Argentine finally makes his move to the Premier League.
Otamendi signs for Manuel Pellegrini’s men on a five-year deal and will wear the No.30 shirt at the Etihad (via club’s official website), as he looks to find a first-team spot ahead of the likes of Eliaquim Mangala and Martin Demichelis.
The 27-year-old colossus was chased all summer by a number of clubs and the side most heavily tipped to sign the Argentine was actually Manchester United.
In fact, Spanish football expert Guillem Balague reported just last week that Valencia were considering offers from both City and United for the centre-back, but neither was prepared to reach his buy-out clause.
The news will come as a bitter blow to the Red Devils, who find themselves disconcertingly short at centre-half. This , furthermore, week has also seen Pedro perform a swift U-turn and opt to join Chelsea.
Otamendi was among those tipped to join United as Louis van Gaal looked to bolster his defence, with Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo continuously struggling with injuries.
Nicolas Otamendi scored six league goals last term.
Otamendi signed for Valencia back in February 2014 from Porto and was immediately loaned to Clube Atletico Mineiro in Brazil, before he returned and made his debut in La Liga in August 2014.
