Wigan Athletic vs Scunthorpe United preview - Wigan continue without Pearce

Posted Tuesday, August 18, 2015 by PA

Wigan are likely to be without Jason Pearce again when Scunthorpe visit the DW Stadium.

The central defender is yet to feature this year because of a leg injury and although he will be in action on Wednesday, it will be for the Under-21s rather than the first team as he steps up his recovery.

Midfielders Emyr Huws and Tim Chow (both ankle) are still missing, with the former stepping up his recovery but still not considered ready to return to first-team action just yet.

Grant Holt is in light training following his cruciate ligament injury and the striker will be pencilled in for an Under-21 game in the next couple of months having been out since the end of December.

United manager Mark Robins will have almost his full squad at his disposal as the Iron make their first visit to the DW Stadium since being the first opposition there back in 2000.

Luke Williams and Niall Canavan are the two absentees through injury, while goalkeeper Luke Daniels serves the final game of his three-match suspension following a red card on the opening day of the season.

Club captain Stephen Dawson missed out on Saturday's 2-0 victory over Crewe Alexandra, but he has been declared fit for the match.

And Robins has received a further boost with the news that both Dave Syers and Jamie Ness, who also sat out the win over Alex, have been declared fit to return.
