Leyton Orient 3 - 0 Stevenage Borough : Orient too strong for Stevenage

Posted Wednesday, August 19, 2015 by PA

Three goals in 16 second-half minutes earned Leyton Orient a 3-0 win over Stevenage at Brisbane Road.

Jay Simpson opened the scoring after 74 minutes when he rose to head home a left-wing cross from Dean Cox.

Orient doubled their lead nine minutes later when summer signing Blair Turgott opened his account with a wonderful strike from 18 yards, following good work from Sean Clohessy.

On the stroke of full-time, another substitute and pre-season signing Ollie Palmer scored his first goal for the club when he shrugged off a tackle before calmly side-footing the ball into the net.

Stevenage were twice denied by the woodwork in the first half, Brett Williams and Dipo Akinyemi both going close.

Paul McCallum saw his header cleared off the line and a Simpson shot appeared to strike an arm when it was blocked in the penalty area.

But the hosts showed the value of clinical finishing with a stirring performance after the break to secure a comprehensive win.
