Arsene Wenger hoping to seal cut-price deal for Karim Benzema

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is keen on Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema and wants to secure a cut-price deal for the Frenchman this summer, according to the Express.

The Gunners have been closely linked with a move for Benzema this summer and are yet to show their financial muscle this summer.

Goalkeeper Petr Cech has arrived from Chelsea this summer, and whilst important, was perhaps not the big money signing Arsenal fans were hoping for.

Benzema, who scored 15 goals in La Liga last term, would represent a major signing and it would likely need a big financial outlay to secure his signature.

However, Wenger is hoping to secure Benzema for a cut-price this summer and is unwilling to meet Real’s valuation according to the Express’ report.

The aforementioned source also states that the French striker is Arsenal’s top transfer target this summer and confirms Wenger is ready to do business but only at the right price.

Benzema is currently carrying an injury that looks set to rule him out of Los Blancos’ opening La Liga fixture against Sporting Gijon on Sunday. This means that any potential deal taking him away from the Bernabeu is unlikely to be completed any time soon, especially if Wenger wants to negotiate a bargain price.

The Gunners were shocked by West Ham United in their opening game of the Premier League campaign on Sunday going down 2-0 at the Emirates. As a result Wenger has been told to beef up his attack according to the Express.
