Arsenal and Liverpool given a boost in their pursuit of Thiago Motta

The transfer of Thiago Motta to Atletico Madrid has reportedly ‘hit a snag’, giving a boost to Arsenal and Liverpool, both of whom are after the Italian’s signature, as per the Express.
The 32-year-old had looked set to join the Spanish side, however, Arsenal and Liverpool could now re-ignite their interest in the player and potentially snatch the midfielder away from the La Liga side, the report claims.
The recent signings by the Paris club of Angel Di Maria and Benjamin Stambouli could see his playing time decrease with the Ligue 1 champions.
For the Gunners in particular, their defence was found wanting in their opening Premier League fixture against West Ham – a game in which they were defeated 2-0 – the signing of Motta could provide more experience and help aid the development of Francis Coquelin.
On the other hand for Liverpool, the PSG man could provide the defensive cover that the Reds require.
Currently Lucas Leiva, Emre Can and Joe Allen remain the Reds’ options when it comes to defensive midfielders but signing Motta would give Brendan Rodgers an experienced and proven European option.
