Muniesa commits to Stoke

Stoke City have announced that defender Marc Muniesa has put pen to paper on a new long-term contract at the Britannia Stadium.

Muniesa has enjoyed a solid start to life in the Premier League and has notched up close to 40 appearances for the Potters since his move from Barcelona in 2013, despite struggling with injuries for much of his time in the Potteries.

The Spaniard is expected to be a key player for the Potters this season following an injury to mainstay Ryan Shawcross and manager Mark Hughes has express his delight at the 23-year-old signing a new deal.

“We are absolutely delighted that he has re-committed to the Club,” he said at the pre-match press conference ahead of Stoke's Premier League opener against Liverpool on Sunday.

“He made a big decision when he decided to leave a club of the stature of Barcelona a couple of years ago. He has shown real strength of character to close the door on the club he loves.

“He came here, to another good club, has been patient and worked incredibly hard."
