Portsmouth vs Dagenham and Redbridge preview - Pompey hindered by injuries

Posted Friday, August 07, 2015 by PA

Portsmouth manager Paul Cook has several absentees as his team prepare to host Dagenham and Redbridge.

Defender Jack Whatmough continues to miss out because of a long-term knee injury and while midfielder James Dunne (ankle) has returned to training, he is unlikely to be risked.

The same applies to midfielders Adam Barton and Kal Naismith and striker Adam McGurk, who has a slight thigh problem.

New signings Ben Davies, a utility player, and Matt Clarke, a defender on loan from Ipswich, are both expected to start.

Dagenham will have a new-look squad on show with several summer signings expected to make their debuts.

Josh Passley and Nyron Nosworthy have boosted the Daggers' defence with a mixture of youth and experience and could both make their first competitive appearances.

Striker Matt McClure, signed from Wycombe, is also in contention and will vie with Jamie Cureton, Christian Doidge, Jodi Jones and Ade Yusuff for a place in Wayne Burnett's starting line-up.

Former Southend and Peterborough midfielder Kane Ferdinand has joined the club on an initial one-month deal after impressing on trial and hopes to start.
