Cambridge United vs Newport County preview - Donaldson ready for U's bow
Posted Friday, August 07, 2015 by PA
Midfielder Ryan Donaldson is set to start for Cambridge in their League Two opener with Newport after taking a full part in training this week.
Donaldson missed the end of last term with a hamstring injury but is fit to feature against Terry Butcher's men.
Barry Corr missed the final pre-season encounter with Peterborough as a precaution but is fit to feature along with midfielder Gearoid Morrissey, while striker Danny Carr may train on Friday and could take a place on the substitutes' bench.
Goalkeeper Chris Dunn (calf) and midfielders Luke Berry (concussion) and Robbie Simpson (ankle) are likely to be out. Rory Gaffney and Jordan Chiedozie are also still recovering.
Newport will be without suspended midfielder Michael Flynn.
Flynn was sent off during the final game of last season so his three-match ban for that red card is carried over into the new campaign.
He may not be the only absentee as Matt Taylor is carrying an injury and a late decision will be made on the fitness of the experienced defender.
New signings Alex Rodman, Rhys Taylor, Scott Barrow, Lenell John-Lewis, Danny Holmes, Scott Boden and Aaron Hayden, subject to international clearance, will all be pushing for places in Butcher's first starting XI.
