Manchester United have finally confirmed the transfer of Robin van Persie to Fenerbahce, as reported by the club’s official website.
Confusion arose earlier this week when the Netherlands international striker was unveiled by the Turkish club but no official announcement was made by Man Utd with regards to the deal.
The former Arsenal striker joined the Reds on 17 August 2012 and enjoyed a memorable debut campaign, making 48 appearances and scoring 30 goals – including 26 in the Premier League. The goals which fired Sir Alex Ferguson’s men to the club’s record 20th title.
Van Persie, himself picked up the Premier League’s topscorer award along with being named the PFA’s Player of the Year.
The Dutchman will link up with former Old Trafford team-mate Nani, who also made the switch from the Red Devils to Fener earlier this window.
With the departure of Van Persie, United now have just club captain Wayne Rooney, Javier Hernandez and James Wilson as recognised strikers.
Louis van Gaal has been linked with a move for a striker all summer with the likes of Edinson Cavani and Zlatan Ibrahimovic mentioned as candidates.
