Chelsea looking to complete £14m transfer of Roma target Rahman

Chelsea look set to complete a deal with Augsburg for left-back Abdul Baba Rahman with Jose Mourinho confident of tempting the powerhouse to move to Stamford Bridge, as reported by the London Evening Standard.

The young Ghanian international was one the best defenders in the Bundesliga last term, winning 91 out of 169 tackles, the highest in the division. Furthermore, the Evening Standard claim he was rated the best defender in the Bundesliga last season.

The Blues are now the favourites to sign the 21-year-old and the Standard believe that Jose Mourinho is a big fan of the player and is confident that he can bring the star to Stamford Bridge for the fee of £14 million.

According to the newspaper, this deal all depends on Filipe Luis’ return to Atletico Madrid. The source states that the Brazilian will be returning to the Vincente Calderon this summer for a fee close to the £16m that Chelsea paid for him 12 months ago.

Luis struggled to adapt to life in the English top flight and failed to give Cesar Azpilicueta any major trouble for the left-back position at the club.

Should Rahman agree to the switch he will become Chelsea’s sixth major signing of the summer, following on from the arrivals of Asmir Begovic, Radamel Falcao, Nathan, Kenedy and Danilo Pantic.
