Edinson Cavani ignoring Man United interest for PSG central role - agent
A potential swap deal involving Edinson Cavani and Angel Di Maria has been a long-term transfer rumour this summer.

Edinson Cavani has dismissed thoughts of a move to Manchester United because he will be happy to stay at Paris Saint-Germain after getting assurances he will be used as a striker, his agent confirmed.

Cavani, 28, had been tipped to join United, who are short of specialist goal scorers after the summer departures of Radamel Falcao and Robin van Persie.

But Walter Guglielmone, who is also Cavani's half-brother, said the Uruguay international has been told he will operate as the French champions' main centre-forward next season, meaning he does not want to move.

Cavani joined PSG for €64.5 million in 2013 and scored 56 goals in two seasons for them, but has spent much of that time operating as a winger due to Zlatan Ibrahimovic's role up front.

United first scouted Cavani during David Moyes' time in charge and there was talk he could move to Old Trafford in a swap deal with Angel Di Maria, with manager Laurent Blanc confirming the Argentine is a target.

Guglielmone said his client has continued to attract attention, telling Journal du Dimanche: "This summer Edi has received interest from top clubs who are chasing a centre-forward.

"He hasn't listened to them because he was given guarantees about his position at the end of last season.

"We have been led to believe that Ibrahimovic will pay further and further away from the box in order to touch the ball more, leaving the striker position for Edi to fill, which was the case several times at the end of 2014-15.

"In such conditions, Edi will be happy at PSG."

Cavani has scored 160 goals in his last five seasons of club football and has struck 27 times in 72 caps for Uruguay.

United manager Louis van Gaal has said that Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez -- loaned out to Real Madrid last season -- will be given a chance to re-establish himself in the squad, with sources telling ESPN FC that United rebuffed an inquiry from West ham.

New signing Memphis Depay, who operated as a winger for PSV Eindhoven last season, played as a striker in United's 1-0 preseason friendly win over Club America in Seattle.

Meanwhile, Gregory van der Wiel is keen on staying at PSG but admits he could leave, saying: "I'm at Paris for the moment. You'd have to ask the club [about a transfer]. My future depends on what the club decides to do."
