Casillas and Real reach agreement

Iker Casillas is living out his last hours as a Real Madrid player.

After a back-breakingly tense situation on Thursday evening when it looked like the whole deal would soon fall through, on Friday morning after a good night's sleep all returned to the negotiating table and found common ground. Although nothing has been signed as yet, the contracts are at this moment being typed out and an official announcement will be made in a matter of hours.

The stand-offs and posturing that took place on Thursday evening are now no more. Disregarding what the Portuguese taxation system may be like, Real are to pay the difference between what Porto will pay as his salary so that Casillas earns €12.5 million net for each of the two years that the player has left on his contract with the Madrilenian club.
