ARSENE WENGER has reportedly made a phone-call to Real Madrid superstar Karim Benzema in an attempt to persuade him to move to north London.

The Metro cite comments from Spanish journalist Paco Gonzalez, who says Wenger has been in talks with Benzema over a potential summer transfer.

The French striker has long been linked with the Gunners and rumours of Wenger readying a bid are circulating again.

With the big-money deals of Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez being completed in the last few summers, a hefty move for Benzema is not out of the question.

Manchester United are also interested in the 27-year-old but Arsenal are understood to be his preferred choose should he leave Spain.

Reports recently put the Premier League duo on alert, with new Real boss Rafa Benitez eager to play Cristiano Ronaldo as his main striker, seemingly showing Benzema the door.

But according to COPE reporter Gonzalez, while Wenger is keen on trying his luck, Madrid do not want to sell.

The La Liga giants are adamant their star forward will remain in Spain for at least another season.
