FORMER Arsenal striker Carlos Vela has turned down a summer transfer to London rivals West Ham.

The Hammers were reportedly willing to shell out a massive £21.4m - the Real Sociedad star's release clause - to land him.

But, Vela has rejected the offer to return to the Premier League, according to Radio MARCA Donostia.

The 26-year-old had an unsuccessful spell with the Gunners, repeatedly being sent out on loan before permanently leaving the club for Spain in 2012.

He has gone on to have more joy with Real, scoring 57 goals in 158 outings.

That form attracted interest from West Ham, as new boss Slaven Bilic looks to add quality to his squad, with a lucrative deal being tabled.

Vela, who agreed a new four-year deal only a year ago, has snubbed the chance of a return to England as well as reported interest from Bundesliga side Wolfsburg.
