Chelsea want Asmir Begovic to replace Petr Cech

Premier League champions Chelsea want Stoke City’s goalkeeper Asmir Begovic to replace Arsenal bound Petr Cech, report the Daily Mail.

The report from the Mail suggests that the Cech to Arsenal deal is done and and now Chelsea have turned their attention to Begovic as the new number two to Thibaut Courtois.

Begovic started his career in England with Portsmouth before moving to Stoke and he has been one of the most consistent goalkeepers in the Premier League over the past few seasons.

It will be interesting to see whether Begovic is willing to sacrifice regular first-team football for the chance to win titles.

Due to the fact that he arrived in England when he was still a teenager, Begovic actually counts as homegrown and would therefore help Chelsea with their squad registration for the Champions League.

At the moment the club don’t have too many homegrown players on their books but Begovic would ease the pressure to name a certain number each season.

Chelsea lost third choice goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer in January when he joined Leicester City and aside from Courtois the Blues are left with just two youngsters, Mitchell Beeney and Jamal Blackman which will concern Jose Mourinho.
