On a quiet day of transfer gossip, AS have dropped a bombshell.
According to the Madrid-based newspaper, Sergio Ramos wants to leave Real Madrid this summer.
Ramos is very angry over recent suggestions that he was offered to Barcelona presidential candidates and the Spanish defender is surprised that Real Madrid have not denied this.
The 31-year-old defender is contracted to Real Madrid until June 2017 but now wants to leave the Bernabeu in the coming months.
Besides the Barcelona rumours, Ramos does not want to leave the Bernabeu “out the back door” like many of his former team mates, despite the fact they were legends at the club.
The likes of Raul and Fernando Hierro are cited by AS, as is Iker Casillas’ current situation.
Speculation has also been rife all summer that Ramos is unhappy over the sacking of Carlo Ancelotti and the return of Rafa Benitez to coach at the Bernabeu.
AS suggest that Ramos would cost a paltry six million euros per season in wages, which has alerted the likes of PSG, Manchester City and Manchester United.
It is fair to say that both Manchester sides would be significantly improved with Ramos in their defence.
A sticking point could well be Sergio Ramos’ release clause of 200 million euros. Ramos is now keen to facilitate a move now rather than Real Madrid let the player leave for free in two seasons.
If Ramos does become available, Manchester United should absolutely jump at signing a defender of serious quality and experience.
