Former England defender Wes Brown has signed a one-year contract extension at Sunderland.

Brown extends Sunderland stay

The centre half was out of contract at the Stadium of Light this summer but will now stay on and has agreed a deal until June 2016.

The Black Cats recently secured the services of Dick Advocaat for another year when it looked as though the interim manager was set to leave after guiding the club to Premier League survival last season.

Experienced defender Brown arrived at Sunderland in 2011, joining from Manchester United, and has made over 80 appearances for the club.

The 35-year-old previously spent 16 years with United, winning 17 major club honours, before making the move to Wearside.
