Myanmar beat Vietnam 2-1 in their football clash on Saturday to reach the final of the Southeast Asia Games at the National Stadium in Singapore.
The Vietnamese were the better looking side creating some decent scoring opportunities but poor finishing cost them in the end.
In the 39th minute, Myanmar took the lead though a penalty after Ngoc Thang handled the ball in the area.
Aung Sithu stepped up and beat Vietnam’s goalkeeper Phi Minh Long to make the score 1-0 in favour of Myanmar.
Vietnam were rewarded for their continued attacking when they got the equaliser in the 72nd minute.
The goal came when a shot from Cong Phuong was blocked by keeper Phyo Kyaw Zin and the ball fell kindly for Huy Toan, who tapped in from close to make the score 1-1.
But their joy was short-lived as seven minutes later Nay Tin Lun scored when his shot took a deflection off Thanh Hien’s knee to go into the goal and give Myanmar the 2-1 lead.
In the end Myanmar held out for the win and will now face the winner of Thailand v Indonesia in the June 15 final.
