"My heart told me to stay"

Dani Alves faced the media a day after signing a new contract at Barcelona running until 2017 and explained why he had decided to extend his deal. "Now I'm sure that the people here love me and appreciate me, and that was one of the reasons why I made the decision", he noted.

"My heart told me to stay. I know I've still got a lot to offer this club. I'd never seen a team with such a good connection before. A lot of positive factors have come together that led me to make this decision", the flying full-back added.

Alves also had some fun when asked about Gerard Pique's joke during Barça's treble festivities, which has caused a storm among some fans: "All that was missing for me was for Kevin Roldan to come and sing during our celebrations", the Brazilian quipped. "It was just a moment of banter, but there was no malice or disrespect in it", he added about Pique's remark, before claiming that Cristiano's birthday party "did help us a bit".
