Myanmar lead Group A with six points from two games followed by Cambodia and Singapore on three points.
The match was a fairly evenly contested affair with a goalkeeper error giving Myanmar their second win of the event. This is Singapore’s first loss after beating Indonesia earlier in the week.
In the 23rd minute Myanmar opened the scoring when Sheikh Abdul Hadi failed to clear a free-kick and the ball fell at the feet of Tun Nay Lin who scored past goalkeeper Syazwan Buhari to make the score 1-0.
Singapore equalised in the 32nd minute through a penalty after the ball was handled in the area. Faris Ramli scored with the penalty, hammering the ball past a diving Pho Kway Zin to make the score 1-1.
The sides went in at the half-time break on level terms after a tightly contested half.
Early in the second half Singapore nearly took the lead when Pravin Guanasagran hammered a shot from long-range that went narrowly past the post.
In the 59th minute Myanmar took the lead when Ye Ko Oo took a free-kick from a long way out, the spinning ball caught keeper Syazwan by surprise, bouncing over his head and into the goal to make the score 2-1.
In the 73rd minute Irfan Fandi Ahmad managed to score but the goal was disallowed as he was adjudged to have fouled the keeper before scoring.
With 10-minutes to go Singapore had a great chance to get the equaliser when a defender slipped in the wet conditions, the ball falling to Sahil Suhaimi, who shot wide from a great position.
In injury time, Irfan came close to getting the equaliser but headed wide.
In their next matches Singapore face Cambodia on Monday and on Sunday, Myanmar are up against the Philippines.
