Thierry Henry: Aaron Ramsey has matured this season

Arsenal legend Thierry Henry believes Aaron Ramsey has “matured” as a player this season, reports The Sport Review.

Ramsey emerged as one of the best central midfielders in the Premier League this season, but he struggled to find that form in the early stages of the current campaign, and Arsene Wenger reminded him to focus on the basics rather than trying to score, as per the Daily Mirror.

He has been back to his best in recent months, and his quality on the ball and energy played a key role in the club’s impressive form during the second half of the season.

The 24-year-old scored six goals and registered six assists in the league, and he helped the Gunners to beat Aston Villa 4-0 on Saturday to win the FA Cup for a second consecutive year.

Henry has also been impressed by Ramsey’s form for Wales at international level, he said: “I saw him growing as a man, more mature. Not scared of taking control of the game.

''I see it also when he is playing for Wales.

''The way he played against Israel he knows he needs to be as good as Gareth Bale, because you are not going to reach the promised land and go to France only with Gareth Bale being good.”

Wenger has often used Ramsey wide on the right recently rather than in his usual central role, and Henry believes the player’s willingness to perform there shows how he has grown.

He added: “That shows you again a sign of how he has matured. He does not go against it, he does not play the ‘me’ card, he plays the ‘we’ card.”

Arsenal finished the season in third place, which means they will go straight into the Champions League group stages, avoiding a potentially tricky play-off tie.
