Atalanta vs AC Milan preview - Doubts over Inzaghi future

AC Milan go into their season-ending clash at Atalanta on Sunday knowing it could be coach Filippo Inzaghi's last game in charge.

The Rossoneri have endured a disappointing campaign and will finish no higher than eighth place, thus failing to secure a European finish.

AC Milan have held talks with Carlo Ancelotti in the hope to lure the Italian tactician back to lead their team in the 2015-16 campaign.

Ancelotti, who led Milan from 2001 until 2009, was sacked by Real Madrid on Monday and will not make a decision until next week.

But Inzaghi, in his first season at the helm of AC Milan, is under contract for a further year.

"I have a contract," Inzaghi said on his club's official website. "I hope to continue.

"The club will make their own evaluations.

"I am a professional and I will continue to give my all until the end."

Inconsistency has been Milan's main problem this season and they have failed to win more than two games on the trot.

They did bounce back from a 3-2 loss at Sassuolo with a 3-0 triumph over Torino in the previous round to climb to 10th place.

"This was the best response from a group that wants to get back on track and wants to give their all for this jersey," Inzaghi said. "We've had a lot of players out injured this season and this would have been hard for any coach to deal with.

"But I believe that with a few additions this summer, this team can return to do well."

Atalanta go into the encounter with coach Edy Reja having confirmed he will remain in charge for the 2015-16 campaign after steering the team to Serie A survival.

Reja replaced Stefano Colantuono in March with Atalanta in danger of going down.

Under Reja, Atalanta have lost just two of their last 11 league games and ensured another season in the top flight with two games to spare.

"I will continue to guide Atalanta next season," Reja said. "My contract has been automatically extended after the team avoided the drop.

"We've done well since I got here and I am happy in Bergamo, I have no reason to leave."

Atalanta drew 1-1 at Chievo last time out and will finish in 17th place in the standings.
