Toulouse 2 - 3 Nice: Nice finish with win

Nice held off a late Toulouse fightback to win 3-2 in their final game of the Ligue 1 season.

Neal Maupay opened the scoring after seven minutes and Eric Bautheac struck either side of half-time as Nice finished in 11th place.

Wissam Ben Yedder and Oscar Trejo pulled goals back, but Toulouse could not get back on terms and end the season only one place above the relegation zone - albeit five points clear and having secured safety before this final game.

Carlos Eduardo had already fired a warning shot, deflected behind by Jean-Armel Kana-Biyik, before crossing for Maupay to tap in the opener.

Alassane Plea drew a good save from home keeper Ali Ahamada and Toulouse's Aleksandar Pesic headed Trejo's cross wide before Nice doubled their lead.

Eduardo was again the provider, threading the ball in behind the defence for Bautheac to finish with aplomb and make it 2-0 at half-time.

Bautheac's second was a simpler affair, a free-kick curled from 25 yards past Ahamada to give the visitors a seemingly insurmountable advantage.

Toulouse belatedly gave it a good go and Trejo volleyed over after being picked out by Ben Yedder.

It was a sign of things to come as lax defending allowed Ben Yedder to get Le Tefece on the scoresheet, ghosting in between midfielder Didier Digard and goalkeeper Mouez Hassen to turn Adrien Regattin's cross into an empty net.

The second, two minutes later, was all Trejo's own work as he ran from deep, shimmied his way through the defence and rounded Hassen as well before finishing into a now-unguarded net.

But Toulouse could not find an equaliser in the remaining nine minutes as a disappointing season finished on an all-too-familiar note.
