Monchengladbach vs Augsburg preview - No Augsburg favours from Favre

Augsburg will have to fight hard for the point they need to qualify for Europe, according to Borussia Monchengladbach coach Lucien Favre.

The Bavarians need a draw in Monchengladbach to be sure of a berth in the Europa League next season but they are not going to find opponents in a charitable mood, since they too still have something to play for this Saturday.

Victory for the hosts would earn them second spot if Wolfsburg fail to win in Cologne, while just one point is needed for them to create a new club record for points earned in the second half of a season.

"We want to win because it is always good to end the season with a win," Favre told reporters at a press conference.

"We are taking this game very seriously."

That is not necessarily what Augsburg want to hear, but their coach Markus Weinzierl knows his side still have their destiny in their own hands.

"We've got to mobilise ourselves one more time," he said. "We want a positive ending to the season, whether it be fifth, sixth or seventh.

"That is already a major success."

Victory would increase their chances of qualifying directly for the Europa League group stage as they do still have the chance of beating Schalke to fifth, while sixth would also be enough if Wolfsburg were to win the DFB-Pokal next weekend.

Otherwise, Augsburg would have to get through a qualifying round or two, not that Weinzierl would be too upset with that.

"Qualifying games are still European matches," he said. "It would already be a huge signal for us to play in Europe."
