Getafe vs Eibar preview - Struggling Eibar staying positive

There is a positivity around Eibar despite the minnows teetering on the edge of relegation from the Primera Division.

This has been the Basque club's first season in the top flight after a remarkable few years at the club formed in 1940.

It has been a campaign to remember but, as many expected at the beginning, may well end in relegation, with Eibar sat 19th in the standings with just two matches remaining.

A home match with Cordoba follows Sunday's trip to Getafe but even if they do drop to the second tier. president Alex Aranzabal says they do so with pride.

"The attitude of the fans of Eibar has been worthy of congratulations, with great dignity, supporting and helping the team," he told the Spanish press. "This also makes Eibar different.

"It's hard to imagine the support of the fans (being like this) in any other team in the league in this situation.

"The players and coaches have our full support. Personally, I have not changed now or by (the results of) Granada, nor Depor, or Almeria."

The praise of fans and positivity was echoed by head coach Gaizka Garitano and captain Txema Anibarro, as well as Jon Errasti and Mikel Arruabarrena.

"We approach Sunday as if it were the last of a play-off," the latter said. "It's a unique opportunity and we want to keep our presence in the Primera Division longer."

Sunday's opponents Getafe are all but assured of survival ahead of this match, but midfielder Juan Rodriguez insists no complacency will be creeping in.

"We want to give joy and we are psyched for it," he said. "We finalise the goal (of staying up) on Sunday against Eibar.

"That is mentality we have and what you need to do is get the points we need."
