Brendan Rodgers: Gerrard could return to Liverpool on Loan

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has not ruled out Steven Gerrard returning to Anfield on loan from LA Galaxy in January.

Gerrard will swap Merdeyside for California when he joins up with LA Galaxy at the end of the season, but Rodgers refused to rule out a future return to the North West for the 34-year-old. Speaking at his weekly press conference ahead of his side's home tie against Crystal Palace at the weekend, Rodgers said:

"We've not spoken about that, [a return to Liverpool on loans]. It's just something we will see how it pans out.

I think Steven has always made it clear in our talks that in whatever capacity he feels he could help the club, that is something he would look to do."

"If we feel that can be from a playing perspective, then that is something we would look at another time.

"A loan is something which may be a possibility further down the line, but it's way too early to look at that now."

Fellow England veteran, Frank Lampard agreed to join New York City FC last summer (BBC), but returned on loan to sister club Manchester City to once again play in the Premier League.

Gerrard has signed an 18 month deal with the Los Angeles side, reportedly worth £4 million to the former England Captain (The Guardian).

The midfielder is set to make his final appearance at Anfield on Saturday when the Reds host Palace.
Gerrard has had quite a frustrating final season for his boyhood club, being in and out of the side for much of second half of the season, making just nine appearances since the turn of the year.

However, he is still Liverpool's top scorer this season with eight goals. He also makes on average more key passes per 90 minutes (2.10) than any other Liverpool player, proving that he has so much still to offer.
