Ipswich manager Mick McCarthy has not ruled out the possibility of David McGoldrick having some involvement in the Sky Bet Championship play-off semi-final tie against East Anglia rivals Norwich.

McGoldrick has been out since the beginning of February with a niggling thigh injury but the striker is back in training and has a chance of featuring at some point over the course of the two legs.

On-loan striker Luke Varney comes back into the reckoning after being ineligible against his parent club Blackburn last weekend.

Back-up goalkeeper Dean Gerken has a slight knock but is expected to be fit, although midfielder Luke Hyam is still struggling with a knee problem.

Norwich have been monitoring the fitness of defender Steven Whittaker, midfielder Alex Tettey and striker Cameron Jerome this week.

Whittaker (hamstring) and Tettey (knee) have missed the last two games while 19-goal top scorer Jerome (minor niggle) sat out the 4-2 home win over Fulham last Saturday.

Fellow forward Lewis Grabban serves the second of his three-match suspension and will also be absent for the second leg at Carrow Road on May 16.

Graham Dorrans, a second-half substitute against the Cottagers, will come back into contention for a start and Gary Hooper will be hoping to keep his place.
